The Azrou– Ifrane Circuit

One felt-need we have whenever we spend time in Morocco is to make a one day circuit to the Middle Atlas Mountain cities of Azrou and Ifrane. They are located about 12 miles apart, 50 miles or so from Fes, in some of the most impressive scenery in all of Morocco. We discovered these delightful locations during our first year in Morocco in 1971. The only time in our life we have ever tried skiing occurred in the ski resort village of Michlifen, technically a part of Ifrane. Continue reading

Random Acts of Kindness

The first week we were in Fes this trip Denise passed along a little kindness, and in return, we received some affirmation. The second week we found ourselves to be recipients of an act of kindness, and this week we experienced an even larger dose, convincing us that kindness given often begets kindness received.

Eid Al Adha

We arrived in Fes the 22nd day of September, a Tuesday, which meant that Eid Al Adha or Eid Al Kbir would be celebrated two days later. It is one of two dates celebrated every year in Islam, the other being Eid Al Ftir, signifying the end of the month of Ramadan. Colloquially, they are usually referred to in translation as the The Great Feast and The Small Feast. It was quite easy to determine that there was already a lot of preparation underway the day we arrived. Think the most popular mall on Christmas Eve and one has an image of the level of busyness and commercial activity. Continue reading
